Upgrading the Verizon XV6900 with GPS and Rev A radio

Lots of folks seem to have a lot of concerns with upgrading he Verizon XV6900 to enable the built in GPS capability. This seems to be because many seem to think it's complicated and error prone, where it's really quite easy, due to the excellent info already out there. This walk-though is based on Darkflame808's "safer alternative"thread, and an attempt to provide easy to digest, step by step info.

Please be aware that, while easy to do and relatively robust, things CAN go wrong and you CAN BRICK your phone, so upgrade at your own risk. However, if something does go wrong, there is excellent advise available and you should be able to fix most problems.

Install ImCokeMaN's Vogue Unlocker

  1. Hit power - camera - reset
Should get rainbow boot screen with SPL 0.36
    spl .36
  2. Reset to get your Vogue rebooted back into windows
  3. Connect your Vogue to your computer with a USB cable, and make a ActiveSync connection.
  4. Run Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exe and follow the on screen directions.
    intialized CokeMan unlocker
  5. Disconnect / Reconnect your Vogue when prompted- A SPL of 2.0 will be displayed at this time.Everything else will be pretty much clicking through the install screens.
disconnect the ppc then reconnect spl 2 displayed
  6. I did not run the relock- disconnected, and let my phone boot back into Windows, aligned screen, run customizations, etc. At this point, your phone will be stock, and you should still be able to make calls, etc. The only difference I notice is that when the screen turns off, it will NOT turn back on with the power button.
  7. Hit power - camera - reset
Should get rainbow boot screen with SPL 2.31
    spl 2.31- success!
    If not, repeat above.

Install Upgraded Radio

  1. Open RUU_Vogue_4350_ALLTEL_WWE_3.04.671.2... with WinRar and extract VOGUIMG.nbh to your microSD card. I used a 2GB card with no problems, but others recommend sticking to a smaller card. Alternatively, copy VOGUIMG.nbh.radio from the zip file to your memory card and rename it VOGUIMG.nbh.
  2. Remove card and put it into your phone.
  3. Power - Camera - Reset your phone to put it into the bootloader.
  4. It should show the rainbow screen (with CokeMan SPL 2.31), then start loading.
  5. Once complete, LEAVE the phone at the complete screen and remove the memory card.
Do not reboot phone at completion

Install the new rom

  1. Copy the .nbh file from your ROM of choice to the memory card.
  2. Rename the file to VOGUIMG.nbh
  3. Power - Camera - Reset your phone to put it into the bootloader.
  4. Install and reset.

Turn on Location Services

To turn your GPS ON:
Start>Settings>Phone>Services Tab>Location Settings>Location On
location settings location on

You should have GPS capability at this point!
GPS with Google Maps

Reauthenticate your Phone

Reauthenticating is required when you upgrade your radio. To authenticate your phone, REMOVE the battery for a minute. Then start the phone back up and dial *22801. Eastcoast users dial *22800. If those don't work, Dial #8899 or #611 and talk to a customer service rep to get your phone authenticated.
